It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Diane E. Lopez- Murray, a beloved friend, devoted family member, and cherished member of the community.

“Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there; I do not sleep. I am the wind in the trees, The sunlight on the water, The stars that shine at night.”

With profound love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we celebrate the life of Diane Elizabeth Lopez Murray, affectionately known as “Dzee” or “Lopee.”

Diane was born on May 9, 1957, in Kingston, Jamaica, to Stanley Lopez and Annie Chang- Lopez. She was the beloved big sister to Howard and little sister to Claudette. She attended Immaculate Conception High School before beginning a lifelong pursuit of learning that would take her far beyond the shores of Jamaica.

Her journey led her to study in Madrid, Spain, and later in London, before ultimately settling in New York City to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology following in the footsteps of her mother, Annie, who had also studied there. Though fashion first brought her to New York, it was there that she built the life she was meant to live, where she met and married, Tracey.

Diane was endlessly curious, deeply philosophical, and never afraid to ask difficult questions or challenge conventional thinking. Though small in stature, she stood fearlessly for what she believed was right, never intimidated by the size or status of those before her. She believed that integrity mattered, truth mattered, and kindness always mattered.

A gifted artist, Diane found joy in pottery and woodworking, creating with her hands. She was a devoted foodie who delighted in preparing paella, grilled fish, and fresh seafood for those she loved. Music, dancing, martial arts, literature, and nature all nourished her soul. She often reminded those around her to “Be kind to the Mother,” speaking of the Earth with reverence, and would reflect that “a river never flows the same way twice,” gentle reminders to embrace change, gratitude, and life’s constant evolution.

Her spiritual foundation was profoundly shaped by time spent studying with a Native American grandmother in upstate New York, experiences that influenced the compassion, wisdom, and respect for all living things that defined her life.

Professionally, Diane built a successful career in real estate at J&M Realty as a broker and lease administrator , where her organizational skills, disciplined mind, and determination earned the respect of colleagues. She was, above all else, a finisher, someone who saw things through with purpose and precision.

To those who knew her best, Diane was a beautiful paradox: a no-nonsense realist with the heart of a deeply sensitive soul. She loved fearlessly, extended grace generously, and almost always gave others the benefit of the doubt. She became a trusted confidante, teacher, and mother figure to many, offering wisdom that was thoughtful, honest, and often unforgettable.

Six years ago, Diane faced one of life’s rarest and most difficult battles when she was diagnosed with primary central nervous system lymphoma. True to her nature, she met her illness with courage, resilience, and dignity. She fought with unwavering strength while continuing to inspire everyone around her with her determination.

On the morning of June 8, 2026, Diane peacefully transitioned from this earthly life with Tracey, by her side.

Though her physical presence is gone, Diane’s footprints remain forever etched in our hearts. Her wisdom, laughter, unwavering convictions, and boundless love continue to guide those fortunate enough to have known her.

She is lovingly survived by her wife, Tracey; her sister, Claudette; and her nieces and nephews, Amy, Nicholas, and Lauren, along with countless extended family members and dear friends whose lives were forever enriched by knowing her.

“May we honor Diane by loving without fear, standing firmly in our truth, caring for one another, and always remembering to be kind to the Mother.”
